How Art Nites Came About

In 2014, my friend/relative Isabel insisted that I should teach painting classes. They were just starting up in our area and she thought I'd be a natural for it. I was on the fence about it; I had gotten my BFA and teaching certifications (k-9 and 5-12) years back, never used them but I had taught a few night classes, stained glass classes and a few meditation/painting classes years before. I didn't think about doing the "wine and sip" type classes but when she brought me to one we had a great time. I realized it wasn't so much about teaching as giving people a welcoming space to be creative, let loose and have fun. I also found that the instructor wasn't helping people and a few sitting next to me were lost. I talked to them, they invited me over to their table and they suggested I should be teaching!
So 36 easels, 60 jars of paint, a few hundred brushes and 900 canvases later (yes, that was the minimum back then for wholesale), I was in business!
Since then I've taught for several years at some art school/non profit organizations, a class at UConn for about 150+ students and a few local businesses that unfortunately didn't survive Covid. Now I've decided to rent space in my town and see what happens. It's a great space - a small community center that's perfect for this. I hope you can join us!
